My excitement is still going strong after returning from a whirlwind weekend trip to Walt Disney World. Before I dive into more extensive details of our trip in future posts, I wanted to give an overview and some highlights. For this trip, we stayed at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, and it never disappoints! From the rustic theming and amenities to its’ proximity to Magic Kingdom, this resort will continue to stay at the top of our favorite resort list.

We arrived very late Thursday night and I am sure we were not loved by the guests in rooms around us. It was our first time traveling with a SlumberPod to put over Isaiah’s crib, and with the combination of being in a new environment, and it being extremely late, he wanted NOTHING to do with that contraption. The next two nights, after long days of Disney fun, he had no problem going to sleep and the SlumberPod proved to be a great purchase!
We started our first day by checking out a restaurant we had never eaten at, The Wave in the Contemporary Resort. Our meals were delicious and the boys both enjoyed their first Mickey waffles of the trip! After riding a loop on the monorail, we went back to the Wilderness Lodge and had a pool day and snacks from Geyser Point. This restaurant is typically one of our must do’s even if we aren’t staying at WL. We finished our day at Disney Springs, where we had dinner at T.Rex, as requested by Gabe, even though the animatronic dinosaurs proved to be a bit more than his 3-year-old dinosaur loving heart could handle. We ended our night with a walk around Disney Springs while sharing a refreshing watermelon dole whip. An early bedtime for our whole gang was necessary for an early morning and fun packed day at the parks that was to follow.
On Saturday morning, we started our day by riding the safari at Animal Kingdom. The animals were pretty active, one giraffe decided to stand in the middle of the road, making our vehicle wait until it was ready to move and giving us all an amazing view along the way. We continued exploring Animal Kingdom and took a break for a lunch at Flame Tree BBQ where we sat at a table by the water and watched the character boat cavalcades float by! This is an easy trick to see many characters while at AK. It was a VERY hot day, so after a full morning at AK we went back to our room and freshened up and changed for our afternoon and evening at Magic Kingdom.
At Magic Kingdom we let Gabe choose which rides he wanted, we started with Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger followed by the People Mover. We saw several character cavalcades on Main Street while we waited for our dinner reservation at the Crystal Palace. After dinner we went to Adventureland to the Enchanted Tiki Room, which is a favorite song of our boys. Isaiah was beside himself with excitement during the show, which if you know him, is a rare occurrence. As we walked toward Fantasyland, we were surprised by how empty some of the streets in Magic Kingdom were. We road several more rides, including Gabe’s first rollercoaster, The Barnstormer. It may be several years before Gabe gets on another coaster, as his first words after the ride were “Let’s NEVER do that again!”
Although it was a very quick trip, any time at Disney is the best time! We had a wonderful trip and I look forward to giving you more details, tips and tricks over the next several weeks.
